Comrades and Ladies,
It is with an enthusiastic spirit and sense of humility that I accept the exciting opportunity to serve as the Department Commander during the 2015-2016 year. I look upon the many accomplishments that have been realized and the service that has been rendered across the Department over the past year with admiration, and I am extremely proud to have been a part of these necessary efforts. As we move into a new service year, I envision three foundation pillars that will under-gird our success.
First, it is imperative that we maintain and improve a Veteran-oriented focus across the posts of this Department. The conduct of our activities at every level must be guided by our underlying duty and our charter to place service to Veterans first in everything we do.
Secondly, our ability to continue achieving our goals will depend greatly upon communication at every echelon at the organization. The effective flow of information at the Department, District, and Post levels, particularly with respect to our Members themselves, will be of critical importance.
Lastly, it is essential that we place a concerted emphasis on bridging the gap with emerging generations of veterans. We are indeed indebted to the Veterans of every generation for their service to the nation and to the VFW, ye our very roles attest to the reality that the veterans of more recent conflicts remain largely under-represented across our total membership. Not only does our service obligation extend to this growing population of Veterans, but the future of our organization relies heavily upon their assimilation into our membership. Their participation, talents and leadership will be vital to the Department in the years to come.
Please know that I highly value the selfless service of the Officers and Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of Mississippi and its Auxiliary and that your ideas and support are both welcomed and appreciated.
